On 10 May 2009, in the town of Burzaco, Carlos Mayo passed away. He was a great historian of the colonial world of Río de la Plata, but also a committed professor. His death has represented a great loss both for the field of colonial social history and for those of us who shared in some way part of his life. For this reason, a group of friends and disciples who, in one way or another, were linked to him and remain connected to his fond memory, thought of paying him an austere but heartfelt tribute, which took place in a meeting held at the National Academy of History on May 8, 2019. In this meeting we could share the fruit of his work, refer to his unique anecdotes and commemorate him in the best way. In addition, on that occasion we agreed to preserve his memory through this book. The meeting was very positive, as more than ten years after his death, we had a pending debt with his legacy. This publication bears testimony to our affection and pays tribute to his beloved memory. El 10 de mayo de 2009, en la localidad de Burzaco, Carlos Mayo dejaba de existir. Se fue así un gran historiador del mundo colonial rioplatense, pero también un docente de ley. Su ausencia representa un vacío muy grande tanto para la historia social colonial como para los que compartimos de algún modo parte de su vida. Por esta razón, un grupo de amigos y discípulos que de una u otra forma estuvimos ligados a él y seguimos unidos a su entrañable recuerdo, pensamos en rendirle un austero pero sentido homenaje, que se materializó en el encuentro realizado en la Academia Nacional de la Historia el día 8 de mayo de 2019. Esta reunión nos permitió compartir el fruto de su trabajo, referirnos a sus singulares anécdotas y recordarlo de la mejor manera. Además, en esa ocasión decidimos concretar la posibilidad de consolidar su recuerdo a través de este libro. Fue bueno reunirnos para evocarlo dado que, a más de diez años de su muerte, se lo debíamos. Esta publicación es un testimonio de nuestro afecto y un tributo a su querida memoria.
